IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MENTORSHIP

when a river is flooding not even a stone can make it head in a different direction,this is what can best describe Miss mary maina.She is a lady full of determination and committed to the youth agenda in mombasa county .Hers is a story of inspiration and mentor ship to young people who look up to her . Mary maina is an astute believer of youth leadership and inclusion in the development of the country and especially matters affecting them.this is what she believes:
Youth should be at the fore front driving their agenda because they understand their problems best ,they should therefore participate in the decision making process and influence change in various spaces and spheres of development
She is the current speaker of Mombasa youth assembly and she holds a bachelors degree in development studies and social works.she is is also a mentor and a key player in the community service discourse.Mary has worked as a peace builder and social auditor for quite a while and has made a lot of impact in community service. she has train a lot of young people in leadership and good governance which is one of the roles that she plays at the Mombasa youth assembly ,which also includes running the parliamentary sessions and maintaining order in the house . it is due to her work in mentor ship for young people that got her invited to Oslo center in Norway to talk about youth leadership and participation in democracy and good governance.
one of the alibis that has been propagate the youth in the coast regions lacks mentors ,this is a narrative that she is working so hard to debunk by giving young people the platform to nurture and Horne their leadership skills ,she calls the assembly the college of leadership . when i asked her about the current situation in the country and whether the youth are claiming their spaces she had this to say ;
I think as young people of this country we need to get to a point where we will say enough is enough and speak about corruption ,we can not seat pretty while the NYS money is being squandered and looted mercilessly ,we Need to take up those spaces and demand accountability
mary maina is surely one of the voices of reasons that can never be wished away ,youth have what it takes to move this country from being a transnational to a transformational country. PARTING SHOT.
We have to the power to influence decisions and we can choose to be different and change the narrative that youth are the leaders of tomorrow ,its not about where you came from but where you are going
