DARING TO WRITE A DIFFERENT SCRIPT!

How many times have you ever done something then stopped and turn to some else because it never worked out ? Well meet a woman who would stop at nothing just to see that there is change in the society! Mrs Grace oloo holds a diploma in good gorvenance and development,she is a community mobilizer,a member of the peace community and a board member at ziwani boys primary school. For quite some time now women vying for political seats have been overlooked and branded all sorts of names ,but that didn't stop Mrs grace Oloo from vying as an MCA in Tudor ward. Hers was a journey that was characterized by a lot of hostility and name calling just like what other women experience in other parts of the county .
In the last general election I vied for a political seat,it was not a walk in the park ,the political arena is very hostile especially for the women ,people would ask me whom do I know in the system and I would say none ,because we have made politics to be a preserve of the few who have money
Her motivation to join politics was to create a transformational leadership and change the narrative to show Kenyans that there are still good politicians out there and although had dream was cut short after she failed to clinched the seat she never stopped there but rather marched on to influence change in other spheres of life. Women of this country do not need to succumb to the system but rather get in there and influence transformational agendas and for that to happen it's prudent to first ask ourselves three critical questions; 1.why am I getting to this process ? 2.what change do I want to influence? 3.what transformational agendas can I bring on board? 4.Do I have the capacity to influence the desired change? Having worked in the community for 20years ,Mrs grace oloo chose community service as a sphere of influencing change in her own small ways with a big focus on education.For instance she attributed the low transmission to secondary school level in coast region to very important factors ; lack of role models and motivation.Its therefore critical for the people who come from the coastal counties to come back home and be a motivation to the young people. Alternatively for the pastoralists counties there is need to think of coming up with mobile libraries for the patrol communities so that they are not left behind. One of the biggest lessons She learnt is that women need transformational leaders for this country to turn around and that having women at key positions will go along way in ensuring that we acquire gender responsive services . Mrs oloo had a message to pass to young women who would want to vie in the future;
Young women must be alive to the fact that politics is not for the faint hearted and that they need to claim their spaces leaderhip is not given you must strive for it but most importantly having the right agenda for the people and also having confidence,its not about you failing or wining but rather what you do after that
Good leaders should have integrity but most importantly listen to their followers that way you will get the people's priorities right as well as moving with the people and not leaving them being. Mrs oloo 's political mentor is mama charity ngilu ,but her mum has played a bigger role considering she was a quite a disciplinarian,she says. She hard the following to say as her parting short ; Politics is a rocky journey but we must go for it !

THE UNSUNG HEROES

A winner is not called a winner for winning a contest, neither is he called a winner for winning once more but rather for maintaining the same status, this is a statement that best describes Likoni community rugby team since their's is a story of triumphing amidst tribulations, call them the giants of likoni because they have fought to defend their title like true warriors do. The likoni  community rugby started as an idea from three friends who were attending church together at ACK,ST Philips church Likoni. It was an idea that was born out of the motive of solving a minor problem where for instance children idling around during and after Sunday school, without knowing that it would bind them together into one big family. T his is what Mr Dennis Gem had to say when i asked him how it all started ? We started the team after realizing that children were roaming around during and after church so we had to come up with away to keep the children busy as they wait for their parents who...
